2-D Multigrid Heat Equation Solver:
A sequence of four pictures showing how the problem space is
divided between eight (8) processors and how the multiple
processors each apply successively finer meshes to achieve
a high resolution solution showing temperatures in the interior
of a 2-D space.
3-D Game of Life
Successive generations of a 3-D game of "life" on sixteen
processors. There is 3-D wrap-around interaction of cells
near the walls of the simulation cube.
The point of observation in this display is so close to
the nearest corner of the simulation cube that a
wide-angle or "fisheye" distortion
is apparent in the image, dramatizing
the meticulously-calculated 3-D perspective implemented by
the author in this demo.
3-D Game of Life, stereoscopic display
Put a piece of cardboard vertically from your nose
to the screen between the two images and see if you
can stare beyond the screen, merge the images and
achieve depth perception of the model.
3-D Game
of Life, gliders crossing processor
boundary As in the 2-D version of the game
of "life", there is also a glider pattern in
3-D life which cycles through a pattern and
repeats itself, each time a few cells further
along its diagonal path. This photo catches the
gliders changing colors as they cross the boundaries
between the spaces computed by different processors.
