YOU! September was another record-breaking month. We would like to welcome all the newcomers to OPN and that's a lot of you this month! As noted above, the total membership has now passed 1,500, up about 300 from the beginning of September. For the first time, member contributions broke $5,000 in one month. Though this is still well below our current expenses (see below) it is still excellent and means that OPN will probably reach the goal of sustainability (independent of corporate start-up sponsorship) sometime in the first half of 1995 if not sooner. This is important because our sponsors' intent has always been to help OPN start-up, not to provide indefinite, unlimited support. In short, we're growing up and trying to get ready to leave the nest. MOVING TO LCC Or should I say "leave the cave". The "cave" is what we affectionately refer to the closet that currently stores all of OPN's modems, the terminal server and internet connection equipment. We're still struggling to complete the move to LCC, increase the number of phone lines to 40 and get out of the current cramped machine room. We look forward to getting the move behind us so we can concentrate on installing better software, fixing the problems with the current software, and generally making the system more and more useful. Though conduits and wiring have been added and a working T-1 circuit is live at the new site, there are still a few financial and logistical hurdles to be cleared before we can complete the move. The wiring modifications to the building are turning out to be more expensive than planned and the delay is increasing our costs due to overlapping phone and internet costs for both sites. So, please continue the excellent support you all provided last month and help us make the final push to get settled into our new abode. The following projection is from a Sept. 5 spreadsheet and may be a little out of date (low) at this time. The spreadsheet also called for raising at least $4276.11 in member contributions during the month of October.
